"Reaching Towards the Light"
Watercolor and gouache
wrapped in aluminum

This little grove of aspen was growing in the shadow of some big spruce trees and were all curving towards the light from a clearing. (phototropism)

Fun Fact!
In my area there are two species of aspen, Quaking /Populus tremuloides (tremuloides, as in quaking-fun scientific name!) and Big Tooth Aspen /Populus grandidentata (as in big tooth). They are often hard to tell apart, and they like to hybridize. So I like to think of the aspen as not a single species, but as a spectrum.

Whoa, I really geeked out there!
btw, this is the last teal painting for 25 days. I can do more by request
