Quercus Alba - White Oaks, are one of my favorite trees. I grew up under an 85 foot oak that towered over my paren't house. I found this one about a mile from my apartment in Olean NY.
When europeans came to the area, the land was cleared for pasture, but they left a bunch of oaks to act as shelter for livestock. Those oaks spread wide to take advantage of the lack of comepetition. The land is now returning to forest, and those big oaks are shrouded by new trees, many of them their own offspring.
